Blockchain is considered one of the most recent technological drivers of business model innovation in the Automotive industry. Firstly created as the technology underpinning the exchange of cryptographic currencies, such as Bitcoin, its applications have extended to a wider industrial supply chain level, with a relevant impact on its efficiency and transparency. With the increasing development and use of tokenized assets, Internet of Things and Digital Twins, Blockchain is fostering the digital transformation and the creation of new and innovative business models. In the luxury Automotive industry and, in particular, in the classic cars segment, the opportunities and the potential of this technology have not been completely exploited, giving the possibility to many companies and startups to discover new ways of doing business, disrupting the Automotive business landscape as a whole. Starting from an analysis of the drivers of Blockchain and token-based business models creation, as well as the need of digitization and technological advancements in the Automotive sector, the objective of this dissertation is to exploit Blockchain opportunities in the classic car segment, by discovering, developing and proposing in detail a new blockchain-based business model to an Italian tech startup. The go-to-market strategy of this innovative solution, called Classic Cars’ Equity Sharing, will be supported by the recent collaboration between the startup and a well-known online auction platform, as business partners, by focusing on the implementation of such innovation and the benefits that can bring to this sector.
