Riassunto analitico
In recent years, the growing concern about environmental problems has increased the importance of sustainability. This is a widespread concept concerning environmental, economic and social levels that can be applied to all sectors. In particular to the fashion industry, which is widely recognized as the second most polluting sector at a global level. Since the number of consumers showing environmental responsibility is growing as well, companies need to demonstrate their commitment to a more sustainable development. First of all, to become more sustainable they need to shift from a traditional, linear model to a circular model based on resource efficiency, reuse and sharing. Then, among actions that demonstrate such commitment, the most outstanding one is represented by Eco-design, which promotes the incorporation of environmental and sustainability criteria into the basic elements of product design. The main theme of my thesis is to explore how sustainability can be applied to the fashion industry in order to understand how fashion companies can reduce the negative environmental impact associated with their products life cycle. In the first part of my thesis, I am going to analyze the theoretical concepts basing on literature and researches. In the second part, I am going to analyze how these concepts can be concretely applied in a small-medium enterprise by focusing on a case study: Womsh, an Italian company producing sneakers and being active in the field of circular economy and eco-design.
