Abstract
This master thesis developed from the idea to combine a three-dimensional exhaust manifold geometry and a monodimensional full model of an engine with integrated exhaust manifold to get a coupled model. The concept is to replace the calibration process with a coupled simulation to get reliable results through a faster procedure. The three-dimensional exhaust manifold geometry has been integrated into the monodimensional model using Converge Lite as a three-dimensional solver. Consequently, StarCCM+ replaced Converge-Lite as the three-dimensional solver in the coupled model because it was required a more sophisticated set of parameters. The project focused the attention both on 1D results and 3D results in order to modify the base exhaust manifold design to optimise the flow. |
