Selecting and evaluating a supplier is becoming one of the most strategic works for any firm in order to reach the set objectives. Furthermore, given the growing importance of suppliers for the company, an improvement in their performance should be expected, as a result of the establishment of collaborative relationships through a proactive approach to manage the suppliers pool. For this reason, supply chains do not represent simple chains of businesses, but a network of companies and relationships whose success is due to the management of the relationships established within it. This paper will investigate the importance of the supply chain selection in the automotive industry. In particular, how a good management of the tender for suppliers is able to achieve efficient and effective results, in terms of strategy and innovation for the company. The hypothesis that will be tested is if the introduction of a “New to the Firm” technology could lead to the reconstruction of the supply chain selection process itself. More in details, my contribution to this work is shown by the implementation of the Maserati case study. Indeed, using the data provided by the aforementioned company, it will be presented how the launch of a new bright vehicle is able to let the company reshape its own supply chain management.
