Background: La sessualità è un tema inerente alla vita di tutti gli esseri umani; ad aumentare il bisogno di educazione alla sessualità sono stati vari cambiamenti avvenuti negli ultimi decenni. Sono quindi necessarie strategie efficaci che permettano di massimizzare la consegna e la ricezione dell’educazione sessuale per preparare professionisti competenti. Obiettivi: valutare le problematiche inerenti all’educazione alla sessualità, in particolare per quanto riguarda i docenti, nella formazione degli studenti del corso di laurea di Infermieristica e sviluppare la competenza sessuale nell’istruzione superiore attraverso moduli formativi rivolti agli studenti. Metodi: Studio esplorativo e descrittivo, con metodologia qualitativa, in un assetto multicentrico. La raccolta dei dati è stata effettuata tramite interviste semi-strutturate ai docenti ed è stata condotta un’analisi tematica. Sono state svolte attività formative per gli studenti. Risultati: Gli intervistati considerano l'educazione alla sessualità molto importante, insegnata nel corso di infermieristica, affrontando diversi temi. In generale, hanno riferito di sentirsi a proprio agio nell'insegnare questi argomenti. Le barriere identificate riguardano il livello di istruzione degli studenti, le conoscenze e le reazioni degli studenti all'argomento, l’argomento percepito come tabù, le questioni religiose e culturali e il tempo disponibile per parlare dell'argomento e degli aspetti professionali. Conclusioni: La sessualità è un tema fondamentale nella formazione infermieristica e deve essere ulteriormente esplorata per superare le barriere associate al suo approccio.

Abstract
Background: Sexuality is an inherent theme in the lives of all human beings; to increase the need for sexuality education have been various changes in the last decades. Effective strategies are therefore needed to maximise the delivery and reception of sexuality education in order to prepare competent professionals.
Aims: To assess the issues surrounding sexuality education, particularly with regard to teachers, in the training of students in the Bachelor of Nursing degree and to develop sexual competence in higher education through training modules aimed at students.
Methods: Exploratory and descriptive study, using qualitative methodology, in a multicentre set-up. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers and a thematic analysis was conducted. Training activities were carried out for students.
Results: The respondents consider sexuality education very important, taught in the nursing degree, addressing different topics. In general, they reported feeling comfortable teaching these topics. Barriers identified related to the students' level of education, students' knowledge and reactions to the topic, the topic being perceived as taboo, religious and cultural issues, and the time available to talk about the topic and professional aspects.
Conclusions: Sexuality is a key topic in nursing education and needs to be further explored to overcome the barriers associated with its approach.
