Riassunto analitico
La tesi studia la relazione fra la cultura e la pubblicità e in particolare come la cultura viene espressa negli spot televisivi per prodotti alimentari e bevande in Bulgaria e Italia. Nel primo capitolo sono presentate alcune definizioni della cultura e i valori culturali secondo gli antropologi Geert Hofstede e Edward T.Hall. Nel secondo capitolo sono stati presentati alcuni metodi per misurare le differenze culturali. In particolare, la distinzione di Hall relativamente alla cultura secondo il contesto e secondo le diverse percezioni dello spazio e del tempo. Successivamente sono state presentate le 5 dimensioni di Hofstede: la distanza dal potere, l’individualismo contrapposto al collettivismo, la mascolinità contrapposta alla femminilità, il rifiuto dell’incertezza e l’orientamento a lungo o a breve termine. Il terzo capitolo è dedicato ad alcuni studi che hanno ricercato come i valori culturali vengono espressi nella comunicazione pubblicitaria e come gli stessi si relazionano con il modello dimensionale di Hofstede. Nell’ultima parte della tesi la teoria è stata applicata all’analisi di alcuni spot pubblicitari di Bulgaria e Italia, per vedere quali sono i valori culturali più spesso usati nella pubblicità del settore alimentare e in che misura questi si relazionano con il modello dimensionale di Hofstede.

Abstract
This master thesis studies the relationship between culture and advertising and how the culture is expressed in the advertisements of food and beverages in Bulgaria and Italy. In the first chapter are described Geert Hofstedes and Edward T. Hall definitions of culture and cultural values. In the second chapter are presented modes for measuring culture differences between the countries. Another point in the examination is the distinction between high context and low context culture and monochronic and polychronic cultures. Furthermore, Hofstede’s model of culture, which studies the culture in 5 dimensions: power distance, individualism and collectivism, masculinity and femininity, the avoidance of uncertainty, long- and short- term orientation. The third chapter is dedicated to the way in which the culture and the cultural values are expressed in advertising communication and their relationship with the Hofstede’s dimensional model. In the last part, the theory is used for comparative analysis of selected advertisements in Bulgaria and Italia, with the purpose to distinguish the most common cultural values used in the advertising appeal for food and beverage products. As well as the extent to which they are related with the Hofstede’s model.
