The aim of this paper is to examine the potential outcomes that the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union could have on Italy-UK economic relations. Therefore, the two macro-topics that are considered are bilateral trade and foreign direct investment (FDI), described respectively in chapters 6 and 7. Since the economic outcomes of the Brexit process will depend upon the decision that European and British institutions will take during the negotiations, different scenarios are examined throughout this paper. These scenarios are based on the different relational model already established between Europe and its trade partners, which could be the basis from which to start while designing the future UK-EU relationship. More specifically, the paper tries to provide some understanding about the characteristics of the industries which are most important for Italy-UK trade and FDI and their evolution over time. With the information gathered during this analysis, it will be possible to see how the current situation in international trade and FDI and potential Brexit consequences could affect EU-UK negotiations, and on the way back how those industries could be affected by different Brexit scenarios.
