Abstract
Several technological – and non-technological - innovations are changing the global landscape of all sectors, including the fashion industry. In the latter, the changes are not just about the product but also about the communication, the distribution, the relationship with stakeholders ... in short, every aspect of the business models. However, these innovations are not easily implemented and accepted by the big players of this industry who usually have very rigid structures. The purpose of this work is to identify which industry trends cannot be ignored because they will determine important competitive advantages in the years to come.
The work starts with a review of the controversial literature on business models’ definition and tools.
Then, the fashion industry has been defined, and its various segments and strategic groups identified.
Following, the "Canvas" tool has been used to study the existing business models (of the fashion companies) and to make a comparison between the players of the current scenario.
In the last part, the analysis of the trends that are shaping the industry in recent years has been conducted and some applications, of the identified innovations in companies (especially start-ups) business models, have been presented.
Finally, the winning trends of the industry, to which the players that want to survive must adapt, have been identified and justified.
