Abstract
The issue of energy saving is becoming a predominant theme and the subject of discussion at European level with consequent composition of common rules in this regard. The aim of energy saving is to reduce consumption and cut harmful emissions: about that can be seen as how commercial buildings expend about one-tenth of the total energy consumed in the EU. In this work the buildings of the large food distribution were taken into account, among commercial buildings. Most of these structures date back to the 60s or 70s and as a result they do not have constructive details concerning energy saving . The major contribution to energy saving can be given through a proper tuning of the BMS (Building Management System). The BMS monitors several sub-systems, the most important are the lights and the HVAC (Heating and Ventilation Air Conditioning). Literature reports several “best practices” aimed to reduce power consumption: proper use of outdoor light, a fine control of recirculation of the air, choice of coolant type used in the foodstuffs fridges, building envelope improvement and so on, but in this work the main goal was not to enhance the previous characteristic: it was to analyze the importance of different variables to predict the consumption of each cost center (low temperature refrigerator, normal temperature refrigerator, UTA, etc.) of the GDO (great distribution organization) allowing a seasonal adjustment of power consumption as detailed as possible. Furthermore, in a future year, even after performing adjustments, it will be possible to estimate what would be the power consumption without the adjustments made. The weight of each variable has been researched using a software that could do the PCA (Principal Component Analysis) and thereafter PLS (Partial Least Squares) in order to formulate a predicting equation of consumption. In this way partially unexplained behaviors of consumption, for example an increase of the same energy despite adjustments, may be clarified using the equations found from the analysis.
