Abstract
The study of the interaction between waves and wind and the respective energy transfer between them, has a significant influence with the change in climatic conditions. For this reason, nowadays it is of particular interest to develop physical models as close as possible to reality, in order to improve the forecasts of waves, the atmosphere, the climate and the estimation of loads on marine structures such as ships and oil platforms. More generally, studying the behavior of the boundary layer of air when the latter is in contact with a liquid surface instead of a solid surface can open to important developments also in other fields. In order to better understand this mechanism, a model was developed in this paper that took into account the transfers of momentum, thermal energy and humidity. To investigate this, a direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a fully developed two-phase flow was performed. Through a detailed study of the average velocity, temperature and humidity profiles, the energy, temperature and humidity budget equations and two-point statistics it was possible to understand how the boundary layer of the air is affected by the turbulent structures of water and the other way around.
