Riassunto analitico
Every year, about 160 million people are affected and around 90,000 victims are killed by natural disasters across the world. In order to reduce the impact of natural disasters on society, numerous elements such as geographical, human, or societal factors, as well as healthcare systems and infrastructures, etc. have been analyzed. However, the factor that affects all of these elements above – politics – has not gained much consideration from scholars all over the world. The research investigates the influence of political regimes on the natural disasters’ consequences in 149 selected countries. Making use of the panel data analysis, the results show that political regimes have a noticeable impact on the consequences generated by natural disasters. Nevertheless, being democratic with a high level of freedom does not guarantee the mitigation, in both global and regional scope. Besides, other factors including economics such as GDP and Health expenditure per capita, Population and its concentration (Population density and Urban population) as well as Mobile cellular subscriptions also have a certain impact, but in an inconsistent way among the world regions. This inconsistency reflects the different typical features that might be unmentioned in the study, which could be a suggestion for future research.
