Abstract
The present research study presents the case of the Italian fashion brand Pinko, which for years has undertaken an innovative and pioneering path towards sustainable fashion. The fashion industry has always been labelled as one of the most polluting sectors. For this reason, in recent years the "Slow Fashion" movement has arisen in response to the "Fast Fashion" phenomenon. Slow Fashion is not only a rejection of "disposable" fashion, but it deals with a real awareness of the environmental impact of the apparel industry. Designers and luxury brands has therefore decided to adopt more conscious choices to reduce their carbon footprint, starting from the raw material used in the creation of both clothing and leather goods. The objective of this research is precisely to take as a case study the path taken by an Italian fashion company that has been showing its commitment to sustainability for many years. In particular, the analysis will focus on the "Love Eva" project: a bag created by Pinko in collaboration with Miomojo, and entirely made from apple waste. The Love Bag Eva is not just a bag, it is the most iconic shape of the brand, recognized throughout the world, but this time presented in a vegan and sustainable key. It is a real challenge for Pinko. Everything started with the design and creation of the product, and subsequently, from mid-June 2023, continued with the arrival in stores of the new Love Eva. It is a unique story yet to be written.
At the beginning of this paper I will present an overview of sustainable fashion, briefly outlining the already existent literature on fast fashion and the research studies carried out on the recent phenomenon of slow fashion. Subsequently, I will present the two companies protagonists of the analysis, Pinko and Miomojo, emphasizing their commitment to the environment. Following up, the paper will focus on the study of the "Love Eva" project, providing all the technical characteristics of the bag and presenting the marketing project created for the launch of the bag on the market. The final section will deal with the analysis of sales data and the results of the survey carried out among stores, as well as the data collected from the marketing campaign. The main purpose is to monitor the first signals provided by this innovative product to possibly draw some interesting insights for further investigation and research on the subject.
