My research will analyze how much competences across Car Industry have changed in last 15-20 years. From 1886 until today, despite all changes and influences on cars sectors, the relationships in retail and supply chain of vehicles didn’t change too much. Related to supply of components and spare parts, car makers tried to produce as much they can by themselves, or to keep production of spare parts under their control or closer to production line. However, as product complexity start to increase, especially with the raise of electronic component on cars, as relationship with supplier became more strategical and complex, due to brand’s ambitions and target in terms of quality, profitability and image. Even with dealers the relationships hasn’t changed too much (except for few brand that tried to sell cars through mail at early 1900), but today’s challenges put also this relationships under analysis and subject to great changes. Vehicle’s sales process are going to change deeply, becoming more complex and articulate. For example, vehicle producers spent a lot of effort for create interest around brand’s image and convert interest in to sales of vehicles. But this process is very complicate, because decision to buy (from a customer point of view) is the last point of a very long process, that started from brand’s acknowledge, became interest, turned in to a lead (hot or cold) and finally ended in purchase of a new or second hand vehicle. In fact, my work will analyze how much competences required to Suppliers, Dealers and Mechanics have changed in last 15-20 years, how their activity have been shaped form external and internal forces ( technological breakthrough and competitors pressure) I based my work on literature related to cars and organizational forms and design. Main aim of the research is to build a questionnaire that is similar for all actors, but with few differentiations for each sector. This structure could help to analyze how all car sector has changed but also to understand in deep how each actor (small or big) have changed his behave.
