Abstract
Abstract
The developed thesis work consisted in realizing a Matlab tool that, following the style of the AVL-Drive software, is able to provide an objective evaluation of the function of the automatic gearshift called Fastoff. The work was developed at the Maserati’s department of drivability, located in Modena, during the period of stage. This department deals with the optimization of the engine’s and automatic gearshift’s management through calibrations, in order to define their behavior, guaranteeing a certain typology of drivability, which comprehends performance, comfort and respect of the anti-pollution legal standard.
AVL-Drive is a software that, through the execution of standard maneuvers defined by the software itself, allows to objectify the drivability of a car assigning an overall mark for each defining aspect, not depending on the driver’s sensitivity into making the maneuver.
However, inside the AVL-Drive no maneuver nor evaluation criteria are provided that could supply an objective judgement on the Fastoff function, about which the functioning logic will be explained.
The purpose of this thesis work has been to supply a tool that, receiving as an input the acquisition of the signal that concerns the execution of the established standard maneuver, could provide an objective evaluation of this functionality, without being exclusively applicable to the cars inside Maserati but usable on any car that has the automatic gearshift function and that’s able to provide a performance analogous to the FastOff’s one. The tool’s strong point is, indeed, to take advantage of and to base its analysis on the car’s CAN net’s signals instead of the specific ones from the shift’s software, which makes it universal.
Therefore, two standard maneuvers have been established, one of each is devoted to the Adv.Efficiency and Normal modalities and the other one devoted to the Dynamic and Race modalities. The maneuvers have been conceived so that possible driving circumstances could be simulated and evaluation criteria have been chosen in order to be applied to the acquisitions that have been made. Through Matlab code a tool able to process acquired data and provided of a graphic interface has been created and, once car-related data have been inserted as input and measurement’s file uploaded, it will be possible to display the measurement’s plot, the marks assigned to each one of the criteria and the overall mark assigned as the result of the weighted average. These marks refer to a scale from 1 to 10 and AVL Drive assigns a judgement for each grade of the scale.
In the final chapter, possible improvements and future developments are shown to be applicable to the tool.
