Riassunto analitico
The study wants to esaminate and explore the ceramic districts and its supply chain business resilience against the highest form of geopolitical tension, as the Russian - Ukrainian conflict. This sudden onset phenomen wreaked havoc on the entire Italian ceramic district and supply chain, given its strong dependence on both countries. To pursuit its objective, the work focus on a panel of different companies belonging to ceramic distric. The panel of companies strive to take into consideration an inclusive and eterogeneous set of players acting in the ceramic district, allowing to catch their supply chain shock caused by the Russian invasion. A good representative of it include: ceramic tile manufacturer, glaze and color supplier, machinery supplier and raw material supplier. This etheregoeneuos panel has been analized in order to asses the presence and the impact of some key risk indicators, or vulnerabilities, of the supply chain and the resilience dimension, or elements, with a longitudinal perspective along 3 (four) temporal stages: pre-conflict (readiness), first phase of the war (response) and in the post-shock phase (recovery and growth).
Even tough the war is still ongoing, so any future development are still unknown, in 2022 the district faced either a huge stress and a great response over it. For this matter we believe that an in depth analysis of the ceramic supply chain resilience can be representative and contribute from either a theoretical and managerial point of view on a under investigated matter as business resilience against a sudden geopolitical shock.
The present work is structured as follows: after an introduction and definition of supply chain network, the literature behind business resilence and its relationship with risk magament is presented. After a theoretical introduction of the topics in analysis, the 2022 worldwide shock is presented focusing on the de-globalisation process that emerged as a consequence of the conflict and its impact on the ceramic district. Subsequentally the analysis methodology is presented together with the findings of our analysis directly coming from on field interviews coming from top management of the panel companies. Conclusion highlights the key resilience elements that characterise the ceramic districts resilience.
