Abstract
The need to conduct tests on tractors has increased in recent years. The reason for this is the growing market demand for increasingly efficient and reliable vehicles. This paper deals with the study of the dynamic system response of a tractor under test to improve the overall performance in a test cell. The study was carried out at CNH Industrial in Modena - San Matteo on small and medium tractors
The first step is to calculate the inertia ratio of the system to determine if it is working properly and if the gearbox installed is suitable for the tractor under test. The relative effects of the inertia setting are then discussed. The second step is to test the system using an algorithm developed with Matlab based on the article "The Role of the Gearbox" by Gilberti et Al. The inputs to the tool are torque and speed data from dynamic tests conducted in the field or in test rooms, as well as the specifications of the electric motor and the gearbox used. Moreover, the algorithm is generalised and strengthened to obtain new gears suitable for the system and improve performance. In this way, engineers can select a new gear that meets their requirements. After a desired value for the efficiency, gear ratio or inertia of the gearbox is entered as input, output diagrams of these gearboxes are proposed.
At the end, a model in Simulink/Simscape is proposed to show the limitations of the algorithm when comparing different input signals.
Furthermore, the algorithm is generalized, strengthening it, to obtain new transmissions suitable for the system to improve the performance. This allows engineers to choose a new gearbox for the test rooms drivetrain to suit their needs while also asking suppliers custom drivetrains.
An output graph of these transmissions is then proposed having entered as input a desirable value of efficiency, transmission ratio or inertia of the transmission.
In the end, a model in Simulink/Simscape is proposed in order to point out the limits of the algorithm comparing different input signals.
