L'elaborato è volto ad approfondire le tematiche economiche legate al mondo del calcio. Il primo capitolo si apre con un'introduzione volta a sottolineare la natura economica del calcio. Inizialmente, si cerca di inquadrare le caratteristiche peculiari di questo sport, per valutare se esso possa essere considerato e studiato come un bene di mercato o un bene relazionale. Successivamente, si analizza lo scenario nel quale questo sport si è gradualmente trasformato in un business, focalizzando l’attenzione su alcuni eventi chiave che hanno stimolato questo processo di cambiamento, come l’avvento delle televisioni, la quotazione in borsa delle società calcistiche e la sentenza Bosman. Nel secondo capitolo, viene inizialmente approfondita l'evoluzione delle società di calcio in imprese. In seguito, lo studio si concentra sulle principali fonti di ricavo dei club calcistici. In prima battuta, si fa riferimento ai ricavi provenienti dalla cessione dei diritti televisivi, analizzando e confrontando le situazioni passate ed attuali delle principali leghe europee. Successivamente, dopo un breve excursus storico, si passa a un’analisi sul ruolo degli stadi per i club di calcio e dei ricavi conseguiti tramite il loro utilizzo. In seguito, vengono messi in risalto i ricavi commerciali ottenuti dai club attraverso la valorizzazione del marchio e l’implementazione di strategie di marketing. Infine, ci si concentra sull’aspetto tecnico e i ricavi che le società di calcio possono conseguire valorizzando il talento dei propri calciatori per poi successivamente cederli ad altri club. Infine, nel terzo capitolo, viene posta specifica attenzione alla situazione di tre club: Barcellona, Juventus e Sassuolo. Si analizzano i dati di bilancio e i modelli di business adottati nell’attività di impresa, al fine di conciliare risultati sportivi ed economici.

Abstract
The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the economic issues linked with football.
The first chapter starts with an introduction which highlights the economic nature of football. At the beginning the characteristics of this sport are analyzed in order to understand if it can be considered and studied as a market good or as a relational good. Then, the scenary in which this sport turned into a business is analyzed by focusing attention on some key facts which stimulated this transition process, such as the advent of private broadcasters, the clubs’ listing on the stock exchange and the Bosman Ruling.
In the second chapter, the dissertation opens with an analysis of the evolution of football clubs, which are now to be considered as proper firms. Then, the study is focused on the clubs' main sources of revenue. In the first instance, reference is made to broadcasting revenues, by comparing the past and the current situation in the European top leagues. Then, after a short historical background about stadiums, the impact of these structures on the clubs and the revenues coming from their exploitation. The commercial revenues are subsequently highlighted, with a particular attention to the brand development and the implementation of marketing strategies. Finally, the technical aspect is underlined, by analyzing the revenues that the clubs can earn by enhancing their players’ talent in order to sold them.
Then, in the third chapter, the focus is narrowed on the specific situation of three football clubs: Barcelona, Juventus and Sassuolo. The analysis takes into account balance sheet data and the business models adopted in the corporate activity, in order to balance sports results and financial performance.
