Riassunto analitico
This work aims at analyzing the implication of code-switching in medical interpreter-mediated interaction. The methodology used includes studies on interpreted-mediated interaction by Wadensjö, alongside the works of Hutchby on Conversation analysis and Mason on the notion of context. The analysis carried out relies on approximately twenty hours of tape recordings in a healthcare setting and the research focuses on the primary parties’ interaction (doctor, patient and the interpreter). The recordings have been transcribed using the software ELAN. The methodological framework described in the first chapter evidences how code-switching has strong empathic implications on the conversation and helps listing the most important patterns of communications in the medical setting.
