BACKGROUND: VRE presents significant challenges in clinical settings, with limited treatment options, concerns about resistance gene transmission, and ongoing debates regarding infection prevention measures. Understanding the impact of vancomycin resistance on mortality in VRE bloodstream infections remains a critical clinical concern, requiring a comprehensive approach to address these challenges. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the independent risk of morbidity and mortality in VRE bacteraemia compared to VSE bacteraemia, and to identify mortality-related risk factors in both VSE and VRE infections. METHODS: A retrospective derivation cohort of consecutive adult patients experiencing E. faecium bacteraemia from 2018 to 2022 was included. 261 patients in total were included.
