In questo lavoro è stata presa in considerazione l'emigrazione italiana verso il Belgio analizzando in particolare gli aspetti linguistici e storico-culturali.
This study aims to analyse the history, the language and the culture related to the Italian emigration in Belgium. Initially I described the different periods of this emigration which started at the end of nineteenth century and carried on during the two World Wars. In the second postwar period, in 1946, the Italian and Belgian governments signed a protocol by which a lot of Italians were sent to the Belgium's coal mines in order to work as miners. This protocol led to many discussions because the management of the emigrants was very difficult. Then I analysed the integration between these nationalities. First, Italian emigrants suffered from isolation and from negative stereotypes that Belgian had about them. But, after many difficult years, Belgian started to appreciate the work made by the emigrants and so they started a new life and became part of the new country. After this analysis related to social aspects, I examined the language used by the emigrants and, above all, their relation with the dialects spoken in their native region. For this section, I used some authentic interviews of Italian emigrants who explained their languages problems. The last part focused on an example of integration: the twinning between Monghidoro and Rebecq, an Italian and a Belgian villages. Some inhabitants of Monghidoro emigrated towards Rebecq in 1924 and in 1946 to work in the local quarries. This migration marked the beginning of a relationship that was formalized in 2002 with a twinning agreement but that started in 1991. Since this year, the local administrations organized a lot of initiatives that involve both the villages and that are a perfect model of integration.
