Abstract
The aim of this thesis has been twofold: the development of an algorithm capable of describing anisotropic material's behavior under an electric incident field of generic wavelength firstly, its implementation with a script later. In particular, an important effort has been made in the direction of creating a robust and effective code that could expand upon what was already available for the concerning scientific literature: this is, in fact, a very mature field, yet a lot of ground had still to be covered for what regards anisotropic multilayered materials. In this sense, this work aims to give the user a reliable tool, crafted upon existing yet limited algorithms, that could handle a huge variety of cases. Wavelength of the incoming fields, angle of grazing, number of layers, physics of the materials; all these possibilities have been included to develop the most comprehensive product possible. This project has been conducted using Matlab for its unparalleled efficiency in dealing with matrix calculations. The code has been successfully tested comparing its output to previously available data and can thus be applied in numerous applications, ranging from tuning materials parameters in such a way that they can absorb the least amount of radiation (e.g. windshields), to micro-electronics (OLEDs and OLETs), to magnetic sensors, to light-emitting diodes and much more.
