This thesis concerns the detailed lumped parameter modeling of the lubrication system of a continuous variable transmission for an agricultural vehicle. The simulation results have been validated with experimental testing in order to evaluate the model accuracy. Furthermore, 3D-CFD analysis has been carried out on some fluid domains of the system whose behavior cannot be directly described by using one-dimensional components. The results of the 3D analysis have been collected and used to map the equivalent orifices which will be implemented in the lumped-parameter model. This one can be used to lead further modifications to the geometry so as to improve the performances of the system in terms of oil flow rate towards the bearings, the synchronizer and the clutches of the transmission, with the aim of reducing wear rate and dissipate excessive heat.
