Abstract
Snap-On Incorporated is an American company of mechanical tools, with an Italian site located in Correggio, which hosted my internship as a testing engineer. The focus is upon the testing activity of tire-changer and wheel balancer software interfaces. The goal is to describe the proper approach to these activities, and to analyze the benefits and the limits concerning my approach, based upon the user-experience design (UX) subject, which is of great relevance since the internship involved analyzing the usability, the clearness, and the understandability of the tested devices, to improve them. Particularly, the most efficient way to apply the following theories is to elaborate a testing process to take them into account at the right degree, with an insight on the specific business and on the resources it offers, exploiting these theories when it is practically possible, and neglecting them, at least partly, whenever it would not be convenient for lack of time, economic resources or managerial availability. Therefore, the struggle is to investigate and characterize the UX designer role in a testing area as the one inside Snap-On, and in doing so, to make use of that multidisciplinary view which engineering requires, hence taking into account the necessity to find compromises that lives inside one business and between the production, engineering, marketing and others offices, all of which have legitimate but different requirements.
