Abstract
The thesis set out in the following chapters aims to describe and analyze a method for a design oriented to Design for X, with particular reference to the Automotive industry. It will define a Concurrent Engineering approach whose focus is to optimize a product design with respect to all aspects of the product life cycle. In order to achieve this goal, we will start with an initial description of the state of the art in Concurrent Engineering and DFX, underlining the dominant features in the Automotive industry. We will then proceed with the description of the method, first defining the areas of interest and the purposes of the analysis, then continuing with the detailed description of the Scorecards and the Extended Bill of Material, the tools with which the method works. The final step will be the validation of the DFX method exposed, which takes place through the analysis of two different case studies. The first case study concerns the optimization of a tank that is part of the cooling system of the high-voltage battery of the vehicle, with the aim then to optimize it with respect to the processes of production, assembly, maintenance. The second case study instead concerns the optimization of a bracket for fixing the exhaust, which must be optimized with respect to the production process and the assembly process.
