The increasing global attention to sustainability issues like climate change, environmental degradation, water scarcity, human rights, resource depletion, and inequalities, led to a huge recognition of the concept of Sustainable Procurement (SP) among the academic community. The integration of sustainability into the procurement activity of any organizations has the potential to led to numerous benefits centered around cost savings and risk mitigation. A growing number of companies are also seeing positive results in increasing sales, differentiating offerings, improving innovation in the supply base, and so on. It represents, moreover, a step towards the attainment of one of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (UN SDGs) of the Agenda 2030, the goal of sustainable consumption and production (in particular, SCP-SDG 12). This dissertation will be focused, especially, to encourage private sector organizations and their supply chain members to successfully integrate sustainability into their procurement process. It will provide a framework to help managers with a better understanding of the drivers to change, the barriers, and the practices required to promote sustainable procurement. In particular, it will be considered the case of sustainable procurement implementation in a company of Modena, Chimar Spa, specialized in packaging production and logistics.
