Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation is a terminological research and analysis in the legal field. It serves as a preparatory work for a French-Italian bilingual glossary which can be used by translators or interpreters who want to study the specificity of the subject. The field of study chosen is adoption since it is a relatively recent topic in the legal world not only to restrict the area of interest but also to identify any terminological evolution. This is in fact a legal field whose implementation or implication has seen an exponential growth in recent decades. In this area of legislation in fact the traditional language sources are not likely to have expanded to the same extent and at the same rate.
For what concerns the structure, this dissertation is divided into three main chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion which includes the final considerations about the work carried out. The first chapter of this thesis focuses on what are defined as “Language for Special Purposes” according to a general evolution of « applied linguistics ». The second chapter of the present dissertation will focus on the characteristics and the features of legal language. Finally in the third chapter, the terminology together with the process of selecting relevant terms will be examined, and a bilingual glossary of the specific terminology used in the legal field of adoption will be drawn up, in compliance with the rules of Italian and French law.
