In a progressively more and more competitive automotive industry sector, the future business advantage of a company will come from responding to customers needs at the end of the supply chain in a better way than competitors and logistics plays a key role in this process. The underlying philosophy behind the logistics concept is planning, control and implement the material flows from source to user as an integrated system rather than managing the goods flow as a series of independent activities. So logistics, previously viewed as a classical function, which involves adversarial relationships among suppliers, customers and transportation providers, is emerging as a key source of competitive advantage and a leading reason for strategic alliance relationship between companies and their logistics providers. The now pervasive development of technology has led to the introduction of new tools to support businesses, which combined with the enormous amount of data available, make it possible to continuously monitor the efficiency of inter-company processes and to work with a view of continuous improvement. Today, in the global economy where everything changes quickly, more and more companies adopt and implement tools, such as simulation softwares, to simulate every new process, in order to minimize the lead time and cost, increase the productivity and prevent errors. This thesis project will first provide a general overview of the main logistic concepts and methodology used in Lamborghini. Then, will be presented the material flows data collection and the data analysis. Finally, these data will be analysed using a VBA code on Excel, then will be presented a simulation that analyses the material flows within the plant using Plant Simulation software.
