Abstract
The strong openness to the international market in the context of the Italian ceramic industry has been one of its distinguishing features since the 1970s.
This phenomenon has mainly developed through various modes of presence, mainly exports, direct investments with the establishment of production activities or the acquisition of companies in neighbouring and overseas foreign markets. However, the path of internationalisation has branched out more in recent years, through the development of commercial Foreign Direct Investment. In the 2000s, the need arose on the part of manufacturing companies to assist and promote sales activity through the different forms outlined: from the simplest form in terms of resource commitment and flexibility, such as the representative office, to the more complex form of market presence, such as the subsidiary. In between are intermediate forms such as the showroom, the warehouse, the branch and the flagship store.
The latter in recent years has seen strong expansion as a method of entry initially into already targeted and developed markets and subsequently into emerging markets from a commercial point of view for Italian companies. The main objectives are outlined in the strengthening of the relationship with the project and design world and thus an expansion of market share, improvement of brand positioning, an increase in brand awareness and image, presentation of specific products for a foreign market and an increase in local customer loyalty.
This thesis aims to develop a project to enter the French market via a flagship store developed through my internship at the small to medium-sized ceramic tile manufacturer Cerdomus. The aim is to see, through a joint action with the manager for the European market, how strategic objectives are developed through this commercial entry by a small Italian manufacturing company. To provide a framework for the project, an analysis was developed using current literature, industry articles, statistical data and information from official source.
