La logistica e i trasporti rappresentano un ambito di estrema vastità e complessità e al tempo stesso di fondamentale importanza nella catena globale del valore, in quanto permettono di collegare diverse parti del mondo in qualsiasi momento.
Logistics and transports represent a very complex and wide field that acquires extremely importance in the global value chain, since it allows connecting different parts of the world in every moment. Thanks to the development of logistics and to the transition from parcelled, integrated and supply chain management, it is increased the possibility of outsourcing complex services; the most common is the transport service. Outsourcing function implies considerable risks and above all benefits, which improve the level of performance offered and enable cost reduction and rapidity of logistics processes. After having analysed the different types of transports and the reasons that lead companies to choose for a given mode, based on advantages and disadvantages offered, the analysis of the present dissertation focuses on road freight transport service performed by logistics operators. The aim is that of highlighting the method and the selective criteria used by companies when opting for a specific operator and the motives that lead them to change it in case of dissatisfaction. The research goes on by paying particular attention on two essential aspects related to the transport service: costs and performance. The first aspect has to do with the influencing factors for the determination of transport tariff that indicate the level of price to offer during the sale of the service. Conversely, the second aspect concerns key performance indicators related to the management of transport functions and to the determination of the quality level of the service. The aim is that of achieving the customer satisfaction, which is not always free of problems, and most of times it is also reached thanks to the cooperation between different logistics service providers. The dissertation concludes with the analysis of the case study of the enterprise “Transports Tresserras, S.A.”, which is a Spanish company, specialized in the transport of refrigerated and pharmaceutical products. The final purpose is that of identifying how the company faces these two aspects, by applying the above-mentioned methodology.
