The Supply Chain as a Control Engineering Assignment' (2011) e revisionati in successive presentazioni accademiche.

Abstract
The aim of 'Introductory Analysis of Digital Control Pratices in Supply Chain management' is to provide a way to solve the 'Bullwhip effect' in the Supply Chain Management with some technique taken from Digital Control Theory. The Supply chain is a complex dynamic system with the aim of satisfying each customer's demand and gain profit. The bullwhip effect implies an increase in the variability of the demand as far as we move up along the Supply Chain and it involves. as consequence several management problems The analysis has been started at KIT, Karlsruhe Institute of Tecnology and completed at 'Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering'. The aim of the project has been the validation of discrete time Math models created thanks to the collaborazion between Professor Dr.-Ing. Kay Furmans, specialist of logistics and Professor Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Beyer, specialist of Digital Control Systems and published in the scientific paper 'Die Supply chain als regelungstechnische Aufabe. The Supply Chain as a Control Engineering Assignment' (2011) and rewiewed in further academic works. After a preliminary study of some of the most important notion of Digital control theories and of the proposed models the validation has been made through spreadsheet and Pivot table with the purpose of testing the flexibility and the stability range of proposed models. At first the 'Fixed Gain controller', the 'Deadbeat controller' e the 'Autopilot controller' have been compared. From the result of this analysis it has been choosen the third one because of its benefit. As input data of the model peak, step, seasonal trend have been used, then random data have been added and finally real data from three German companies have been tested. For all the analysed cases the range of system stability have been found. The analysis has proved that Autopilot is efficient and flexible and it can be used to satisfy customer's demand, to avoid stock-out and prevent Bullwhip effects. With this type of control is also possible to change the delay time of the system between each supplier without conseguences. This analysis has also been used to study further increases to the model and the research in this field has been developing at KIT.
