Riassunto analitico
The present dissertation examines the process of knowledge transfer within multinational corporations, taking the Italian multinational SACMI Imola as a case study. The ability of multinational corporations to efficiently transfer knowledge across borders significantly contribute to build a competitive advantage in the worldwide business environment. However, transferring knowledge across units located in different geographical and cultural environment is not an easy task. To cope with this issue, the parent company typically send employees on cross-border assignments. These are namely expatriates possessing knowledge of both the home and the foreign market and good intercultural communication skills, assisting employees in the foreign subsidiary to absorb and integrate knowledge in the new cultural setting. Building on this framework, the analysis focuses on the Italian multinational SACMI Imola. The company’s approach towards knowledge transfer is quite peculiar and reflects itself in the company’s cooperative nature. Indeed, in contrast with the traditional capitalist approach, the company promotes the sharing and integration of knowledge between headquarters and foreign subsidiaries.
