In the last decades the automotive sector is living radical changes and new challenges such as intense competitions, new entrants, quality concerns, supplier and market complexities along with the added pressure of the more strict environmental requirements in terms of emission and the consequent switch to electrification. Electric and hybrid vehicle represent a major sign that automotive manufacturers need to re-think their strategies and business model. For these reason, procurement and supply chains teams have now a crucial role to play, now more than ever, in ensuring cost competitiveness of existing suppliers and developing further supplier networks and supply chains for new models of vehicles. As a matter of fact, procurement is a critical business function, it has the ability to directly influence corporate profitability when it is operating at a strategic level within firms. In this aim, Strategic sourcing and Reverse Marketing approaches may represent an important tool that companies may use in order to foster the creation of value. In this project thesis I will try to show which are the potential benefits related to the application of these new sourcing’s philosophies, such as increased level of costs savings, better alignment of sourcing and business objectives, optimization of ideal supplier and probably most importantly, long-term relationship building with suppliers.
