The main purpose that every company aims to achieve is profit, but today, the consumers do not make his choices only based on the cost-effectiveness of the product or service offered. The customers are careful, selective, competent and they are able to orient actions of a company and to influence its success or failure. Nowadays is important to understand actions, values and social consequences of a company activity and work. For these reasons, many companies and governments have initiated programs of so-called " social responsibility " Most definitions of Corporate Social Responsibility describe it as a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis. This work try to present this new aspect of economy as a model of sustainable economic development. The topic is divided in two parts. The first part concerns CSR theory and shows European, Italian and Lombardy frameworks. The second one presents concrete examples of responsible corporates, statistics and the project “Buone Prassi” promoted by the Chamber of Commerce of Pavia province and the experience of a big company: Riso Scotti SpA.
