Riassunto analitico
The analysis of technical efficiency is an hot issue not only in economic research but also in economic policy. Particularly, in agricultural production where resource constraints are binding, making full use of limited resources and improving technical efficiency have become very important goals in view of a sustainable development of a modern agricultural economy. This thesis, provides an empirical analysis of technical efficiency in Chinese agricultural production. Battese & Coelli (1992) stochastic frontier methods are applied to panel data on agricultural production in 31 provinces in China from 2010 to 2016. This thesis not only provides measurements of technical efficiency in each province, but it also analyzes the factors affecting technical efficiency. The conclusions are the following: the average level of technical efficiency in Chinese agriculture is not high; although the level of the national average technical efficiency has been rising since 2010, the growth rate is slowing down; China's current agricultural technical efficiency is mainly affected by the average pure use quantity of fertilizer (PF), the ratio of sown area to cultivated land area (MIR) and GDP per capita (PGDP).
