This thesis presents the development of a simulation-based tool for evaluating the performance, efficiency, and optimization potential of electric powertrains, with a particular focus on integrating thermal aspects. The tool is designed to analyze the key components of electric vehicles (EVs), such as the motor, inverter, battery, and their thermal management systems. By incorporating system-level simulations, the tool provides insights into energy consumption, power delivery, and heat generation, enabling a comprehensive assessment of overall system efficiency and thermal behavior. The research compares then different approaches to the development of system simulations, and explores a different configuration for the transmission, aiming at improving the overall performances of the powertrain. Initial results demonstrate the tool’s capability to optimize both energy efficiency and thermal management, suggesting improvements in system design and performance. This work contributes to advancing the evaluation and optimization processes of electric powertrains, offering a valuable resource for future developments in electric vehicle technology.
