Technological advances and increased information flows in the last decades turned knowledge to the main driver of economic growth. Investments in technology and innovation became a weapon in the war of economic competition of countries. Company innovation, thus, becomes a central issue. It is a continuous dynamic process - companies continuously update their products and processes and collect new knowledge. Innovation includes many activities, which go much further then R&D; it comprises all scientific, technological, organizational, financial and commercial actions, which aim to the application of innovations. A lot of innovation knowledge is embedded in people and their skills, thus, the importance of human capital in innovation is crucial.Company innovation is fundamental part of its business activity and it is vital involvement in this process of its employees as they are responsible for development, reaction to and modification of ideas, which is called also innovative work behavior (IWB). Employees’ innovative behaviors are central to the innovative capacity of companies as individuals are the pillars of every innovation.In this study we are going to investigate the main determinants of IWB and we will analyze the difficulties, which are facing italian SMEs in implementation of it. Here will be useful the case study of Battipav Srl.
