Abstract
The Thesis is articulated in three essays. The first one is centered on the analysis of care services from an organizational, legal and economic point of view; the research is based on the literature, and on the analysis of metadata at national and international level. Its innovation relies both on the use of different tools (from labour economics, labour organization and labour law) and from the analysis of a case study at the district level making use of original micro (quantitative and qualitative) and administrative data. The analysis of these data allowed me to illustrate a management system with a multidimensional approach, showing the relevance of sharing of the standards of services and the support for the professional recognition of qualifications of care work.
In the second essay a special focus is devoted to the use of innovative tools, such as video research connected to the experience of Short on Work, which is a project consisting of an international contest for short documentaries on work. During 3 years of activities in this area of research I have been able to recognize the diversity of experiences in the field of the visual representation of work and I have been following different research projects in the area.
The third essay an interdisciplinary representation of the concept of quality of work applied to the field of care services is presented, with a special attention to the introduction of new methodologies including work narration through video research. Through the analysis of representative typologies it was possible to improve the understanding of the phenomenon. The last essay brings together the knowledge developed on the analysis of the care sector and the application of video research to the analysis of work tackle to analysis of the quality of work in the care sector.
