The increasing focus on sustainability and cost efficiency in the automotive supply chain has led to a growing interest in optimizing packaging solutions. This study evaluates and compares reusable (returnable) and expendable (one-way) packaging solutions, analyzing their impact on cost and environmental sustainability. While reusable packaging offers long-term benefits such as waste reduction, improved durability, and lower lifecycle costs, expendable packaging provides flexibility and lower initial investment costs. The research examines key factors influencing the choice between these two systems, including transportation distance and carbon footprint. Through a comprehensive analysis, this thesis identifies the trade-offs between cost savings and environmental impact. The findings suggest that the optimal packaging choice depends on supply chain characteristics, volume, return logistics, and sustainability goals.
