Lo stress connesso all’attività lavorativa delinea una delle sfide principali con cui l'Europa deve confrontarsi nel campo della salute e della sicurezza e questa condizione interessa quasi un lavoratore su quattro.
Work-related stress presents one of the main challenges facing Europe in the field of health and safety, and this condition affects almost one in four workers. In recent decades the labour market has been marked by deep changes linked to the globalisation, deregulation of labour markets and a clear shift from physical to mental work. Changes in the labour market are causing increasing pressures into workers, just thinking of the downsizing of companies and outsourcing of tasks and the higher request of flexibility in terms of employment and skills. These changes were determined by technological and economic factors which aim to increase productivity and, consequently, profit. However, this has damaged the safety and health protection conditions at work. Like all other workers, even those employed in the school are exposed to a number of potential psychosocial risks of an organisational nature: a conflicting relationship with the boss or colleagues, a difficult deadline to meet, the existence of unfair rules and procedures and excessive workloads. The functions of teachers have increased and diversified over time. In addition to develop the interest and the logical skills of pupils, as well as the practical skills to face the labour market, teachers nowadays have to face social and institutional changes. The lack of recognition from the society causes uneasy feelings. Parents and students are increasingly questioning the work of teachers who must justify their actions and the measures they have planned. The thesis contains the evaluation of the quality of working life in High School Institute and points out that teaching is based on emotional relationships, and this further increases the health risks.
