Riassunto analitico
Over the last century, the world has witnessed economic, political, and demographic changes. Cultural movements revolutionised the role women had in society and led to their emancipation. One of the consequences, and simultaneously cause, was the spread of divorce culture and the increase in marital disruption rates worldwide. Using data for a sample of 141 countries, this study examines the effect of different determinants on Crude divorce rate development in the period between 1966 and 2016. In particular, the study focuses on the effect of fertility rate on divorce incidence. Further, using both pooled OLS and fixed effects estimations, I will examine whether the two variables have a linear or curvilinear U-shaped relationship. Results indicate that fertility rate appears to influence divorce risk and it cannot be excluded that the relationship regulating the two variable may be curvilinear U-shaped.

Abstract
Over the last century, the world has witnessed economic, political, and demographic changes. Cultural movements revolutionised the role women had in society and led to their emancipation. One of the consequences, and simultaneously cause, was the spread of divorce culture and the increase in marital disruption rates worldwide. Using data for a sample of 141 countries, this study examines the effect of different determinants on Crude divorce rate development in the period between 1966 and 2016.
