In China, as E-commerce continues its booming after 10 years, logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) becomes more and more important and eventually one of the core competencies. With Chinese E-tailing companies like Alibaba and Jingdong break into NYSE and NASDAQ, the huge Chinese E-tailing market has been brought to the world.
The modern logistics have become the most important means to improve the efficiency of material flow and reduce distribution costs for E-tailing. However, the greater market flow goes the more pressure logistics will take. At the same time, the recent development of E-tailing also contributed to the expansion of the logistics market, promote the development of logistics related technologies. In order to figure out current movement of E-commerce logistics in China, this thesis summarizes the logistics models and supporting techniques for the E-commerce logistics in Chinese E-tailing market, and highlights the challenges, opportunities and future perspectives.
In this study, two major Chinese online retail companies are selected to represent Chinese online retailing market to analyze two different logistics distribution systems. Tmall represents the outsourcing logistics solution and Jingdong represents the self-built logistics solution. By demonstrating the utility of transaction cost theory and core competence theory, this study shows the reason to choose different types of logistics solution and the adaptation to market changes and competition in Chinese online retailing market, and gives an outlook of Blockchain for E-tailing and logistics industry in the future.
