Abstract
Streamlined vehicles have always been object of studies and its aerodynamics is still under investigation. One example of how this topic is current is the Shell Eco Marathon competition, that brings a good percentage of Universities from all over the world and today students to push the boundaries of research and demonstrate that is possible through accurate and experimental analysis to improve the performances and consequently reduce fuel consumption, that is the principle aim of the competition. Today prototypes with thermal engines reaches 1500 km with a liter of gasoline.
The aerodynamics of a vehicle is key to have a vehicle that is capable to win the competition. Todays tools like computational analysis and experimental tests help a lot to make the study faster.
This report describes the aerodynamic study of a streamlined prototype car that will take place at the Shell Eco Marathon America competition for the team “E3” of energy efficiency of the “Federal University of Santa Catarina – Florianópolis”.
This study starts approaching its ideation phase, relative to the external surfaces of the bodywork, to then move on CFD studies and its experimental validation through a blower tunnel.
Together with the cited propositions a maximum value for the Drag Coefficient Cd has been set with the value of 0,1.
The study evaluates with a good accuracy that the differences in results in between the two methodologies, computational and experimental are limited.
