Starting from the end of the previous millennium and the beginning of the new one, the world’s markets are all facing the most important, and of course, also the most famous economic phenomenon of all time; globalization. It has become part of all economic entities worldwide in a very restricted time interval. It is something that all companies must look at, to adapt to. It is a must without which firms, are inevitably intended to fall, soon or later. The effects of globalization are everywhere, from the offered products to the mission and vision of the companies, and now that it is contributing to the decline of the international markets’ barriers, it has become fundamental for the company to understand how to exceed the geographical limits. The main purpose of this master thesis is to understand whether the standard entry modes in foreign markets can be surpassed by a more human-centralized approach, based on entrepreneurial competencies and capabilities. Another question mark is whether the old schemes and models are still able to build the right competencies or if it is vice versa. It is also matter of this study to find and highlight which are the specific capabilities that are required to succeed in internationalization processes and to develop a healthy presence abroad. The research is supported by a practical case examination. The direct experience of Società Cooperativa Bilanciai is studied here, in its competence sector, having them expanded their international presence across Europe and even more, reaching the overseas shores. To understand how the companies can afford the internationalization process, the main European scenario has been taken into consideration and consequently examined; with a focus on the BENELUX market. The study emphasizes how an acquisition, even if structurally well developed, is not enough to ensure the activity's success if not matched to the right competencies and the right people.
