Riassunto analitico
Nowadays pollutant emissions are one the most important constrain faced by automotive industry. To reduce environmental impact, various methodology have been studied to reduce emissions of engines and, for this purpose, catalytic converter presents the best solution to converter climate-altering products. In this process, one of the most important parameters is the light-off temperature, which is the minimum temperature that the catalyitic converter must reach to have a good efficiency in terms of emissions conversion. In these terms, a turbocharged engine presents a larger resistance than a natural aspirated one, due to a higher wet surface before the converter, which abruptly reduces exhaust gas temperature, thus increasing time to reach light-off temperature. This works presents a methodology to partially convert a turbocharged engine into a natural aspirated engine during the cold start, to increase exhaust gas temperature facing the converter thus increasing its performances.
