Abstract
The thesis is part of a very current industrial context, namely the automation of factories by means of autonomous guided vehicles (AGV).
The main idea of this project absorbs the capabilities of these vehicles with the knowledge of the layout on which they will have to move.
In current systems, the AGVs operate on a predetermined layout - similar to a road network - designed and optimized manually by expert technicians. This is one of the reasons that led the LGV Department of System Logistics, a leading company in the design and development of automated solutions for intralogistics and material handling, to request an analysis to identify an automatic and optimized method. Inside the company there is already an automatic tool capable of providing support during the design of the layout, but it lacks several optimizations and constraints present in real plants.
Starting from the existing tool, the goal of this work was to develop software capable of optimizing the automatic creation of a layout based on real constraints.
The layout (or roadmap) of a plant represents the set of paths on which vehicles can move, therefore the way in which this one is designed tremendously affects the efficiency and performance of the entire system.
A good layout must be able to optimize real flows (missions/h) and, at the same time, it must not cause traffic slowdowns and/or congestion. The current manual approach depends on the experience of the individual technician, so it was evident the need to create software capable of considering the various aspects characterizing the correct layout design in order to create it automatically.
