Riassunto analitico
This master degree dissertation deals with the study of the ways in which organizations in general and retailers in particular react after a natural disaster. The first three chapters present an overview of the literature about the term resilience. In particular in the first chapter it is possible to find a general overview of the term resilience, identifying the concept, the perspectives, the components and determinants. In the second chapter it is possible to find how the term resilience could be applied to organizations and why organizational resilience capacity can be viewed as an antecedent to strategic agility, and as a moderator of the relationship between a firm’s dynamic activities and subsequent performance. The third chapter deals with the factors that have enabled retailers to be resilient in a business environment characterized by a natural disaster. In particular the focus was to understand how small businesses react after a natural disaster, how they recover and the relationship with the disaster impact area. This gives important avenues because it provides invaluable insights for retailers to design mechanisms that help them to thrive and sustain their businesses. In the last chapter a quantitative approach was used in which 207 retail managers were selected in the area damaged by the Emilia’s earthquake and questioned about their experience after the natural disaster.
