Accurate heat release analysis of cylinder pressure data is a powerful tool used in the development of engines. Thus, the development of a LabVIEW-based heat release analysis program is meant to reduce cost and increase the flexibility of a data acquisition system. The paper aims to study parameters used in determining an engine's performance, specifically the combustion process, and to develop a post-processing program for HRR analysis. The combustion analysis parameters included in this program are Apparent Heat Release Rate (HRR) and Normalized Cumulative Heat Release, calculated from in-cylinder pressure. A short overview is given on the theory of Heat Release Analysis, Engine indicating (Pressure Sensors), and Data Acquisition. To validate the newly developed program, the result of this program is compared to a combustion analysis program called DEWETRON CA. The thesis provides a conclusion and further recommendations on the improvements of the new software.
