Questo elaborato approfondisce il tema della comunicazione interculturale nell’ambito di alcuni siti universitari americani ed europei, analizzando in che modo queste università trattano la diversità culturale nei siti e nei corsi di laurea in un mondo sempre più globalizzato.
The spread of globalization increases intercultural contact and interdependence all over the world, and forces people to rethink intercultural communication in order to create positive and effective communications. At the same time cultural diversity is increasingly considered object of misunderstanding and conflict due to the contact between different cultures. Every day many professional practitioners and private individuals face new challenges related to complex international situations, and it goes without saying that communication serves a vital role in the achievement of set goals. Universities are changing their perspectives and adapting their websites to the current dialogic era, by acquiring more consciousness of cultural diversity. The purpose of this thesis is to focus on the theme of Intercultural Communication through the analysis of various university websites (USA and EU), and to analyze the way in which websites promote the course of Intercultural Communication in order to be effective. I’ll highlight the way in which linguistic and design choices cope with the challenge of cultural diversity. Nowadays people have more complex needs, due to the massive information they have access to and consequently websites have to meet people’s needs in a more exhaustive way. This is why, more than ever, websites have to take care of structure and content. Flexibility, creativity and variety are key concept in website design, in order to stimulate the user. Intercultural Communication involves many challenges, especially because cultural and linguistic diversity make communication more complex. Consequently individuals need to acquire a consciousness of linguistic, cultural and social diversity, and act in a respectful manner, given that culture affects constantly behaviours, expectations and ideas. The aim of my thesis is the analysis intercultural communication aspects, its problems, challenges and solutions in order to create a efficient communication, and above all a peaceful and respectful way of comunicate with the Other. Thanks to difference, people are able to enrich their world view, and to become more curious with an open mind.
