The Kilobot Soft Robot: a novel soft-bodied robot that is modular and reconfigurable. The Kilobot Soft Robot comprises a square lattice configuration of the commercially available Kilobot modules, which are inter-connected via reconfigurable, elastic links. Each module moves using vibration motors and can detect the distance of neighbouring modules. Dstributed algorithms are designed to enable a group of connected modules to self-localise, move, and deform using only local information. The algorithms are validated using a series of experiments with up to 49 physical modules. The results show that the motion accuracy of the Kilobot Soft Robot increases with the number of modules.
