L’elaborato si concentra sulla traduzione e sul commento alla traduzione
dell’album a fumetti Miséricorde dell'autore belga Jean Van Hamme, uno dei più importanti
sceneggiatori di narrativa grafica contemporanea in Belgio e in Francia. La parte iniziale
esplora l’evoluzione degli studi sulla “nona arte” e definisce il fumetto come un medium ibrido
e complesso. Si procede con l’analisi dei sette fumetti che compongono l’album Miséricorde:
vengono esaminati la trama, le caratteristiche del narratore, l’evoluzione dei personaggi e, dove
presente, l’uso dell’umorismo, con un particolare focus sugli aspetti linguistici che si
distinguono nei testi. La seconda parte dell'elaborato è dedicata alla proposta di traduzione
dell’intero album, dalla quale emergono difficoltà linguistiche e culturali, successivamente
discusse nel terzo capitolo. In particolare, si riflette sulle scelte traduttive più significative, che
riguardano principalmente il linguaggio parlato, i giochi di parole e il rapporto tra testo e
immagine. Infine, l’analisi delle scelte traduttive viene correlata agli studi teorici sulla
traduzione, sottolineando come la teoria possa orientare la pratica traduttiva.

This dissertation focuses on the translation and the commentary on the translation of the comic book Miséricorde by Belgian author Jean Van Hamme, one of the most prominent scriptwriters of contemporary graphic narrative in Belgium and France. The initial part explores the evolution of studies on the "ninth art" and defines comics as a hybrid and complex medium. It proceeds with an analysis of the seven short stories that compose the comic book: the plot, the characteristics of the narrator, the evolution of the characters, and, where present, the use of humor are examined, paying particular attention to the linguistic aspects that stand out in the texts. The second part of this work is dedicated to the proposed translation of the entire book, from which linguistic and cultural difficulties emerge, as discussed later in the third chapter. In particular, the most significant translation choices are considered, mainly concerning spoken language, puns, and the relationship between text and image. Finally, the analysis of translation choices is related to theoretical studies on translation, emphasizing how theory can guide translation practice.
